Prasarana Malaysia Berhad is on a mission to upgrade its public transport services in the Klang Valley, including LRT, MRT, BRT, monorail, and Rapid KL buses, with the goal of becoming the go-to choice for commuters.
President & Group Chief Executive Officer En Mohd Azharuddin Mat Sah acknowledges current challenges but assures ongoing improvements to boost ridership. He states, "We have a big mandate which is to provide the best public transport services. It is important for us to provide reliable services, and that's something we're striving to improve every day. When it's supposed to be on time, it's on time. It doesn't break down."
Currently at 16% usage, Prasarana targets 40% ridership by 2030. Progress includes enhanced LRT frequency and an expanded bus fleet. Azharuddin acknowledges the system isn't at Singapore or Hong Kong's level yet but emphasises learning and proactive measures, especially after the 2021 train collision. He says, "We are determined to avoid a recurrence of the May 2021 incident. Safety is our utmost priority, and if we don't meet our (own) high standards, we will not operate the trains."
Preventive maintenance and data-driven training ensure safety and operational efficiency. Upcoming projects like LRT3 aim to improve connectivity, linking with existing lines and expanding the transport network. Azharuddin welcomes the government's RM4.7 billion allocation for LRT3, emphasising its importance in densely populated areas.
He also envisions upgrading the PULSE app for accurate bus tracking and comprehensive journey planning. He states, "Our grand ambition is for PULSE to become an end-to-end journey planner. We want to make sure all information is accurate for our passengers so they can plan their journeys better."
Prasarana's commitment is clear: to provide reliable, safe, and efficient public transportation for all.
