“Voices”

The Masjid Jamek LRT Station appeared busier than usual as the LRT track connecting it to the Bandaraya Station reopened just a few days prior after a year-long rectification works. Inside the station, a variety of the usual sounds filled the area—shoes hurriedly tapping on the floor, the buzzing of the ticket barriers, a group of friends laughing and chatting as they left the station. Seeing the familiar faces, Prasarana’s Mobiliti team took the opportunity to conduct a quick vox pop i.e. street interview, asking them about their experience of the newly reopened stretch between Masjid Jamek and Bandaraya, and travelling via the LRT/MRT:

Here’s what they have to say:

Question: What are your thoughts about the frequency of the train?

“I think it’s great that the trains are frequent. In some cases when people are late to their appointments and they might miss the first train, they can rely on the next one.”
Farhan, student

Question: What are your thoughts on the women’s coach initiative on the MRT Kajang Line?

“With the rising cases of sexual harassment, I think it’s a good initiative. Especially during peak hours when the trains are crowded, it’s important for women to fill up the women’s coach.”
Amir, student

Question: What are your thoughts on the reopening of the Masjid Jamek-Bandaraya stretch on the Ampang Line?

“When it was closed, it was quite a hassle because I had to switch lines [sic] and it took quite some time to get to Masjid Jamek. But with the reopening of the stretch, it’s so much easier especially when the trains are faster and more frequent than before.”
Izuan, stall owner

What are your thoughts on the women’s coach initiative on the MRT Kajang Line?

“The women’s coach helps to curb sexual harassment cases. The trains can be packed and especially now we see an increasing number of foreign visitors using our trains. The women’s coach is helpful to keep women safe.”
Nur Intan, food kiosk helper

Question: What are your thoughts on the reopening of the Masjid Jamek-Bandaraya stretch on the Ampang Line?

“I’m very glad that the route reopened because it was a bit confusing and a hassle to switch lines at the Hang Tuah station. Since the reopening, it’s a lot easier for me to travel. I can travel directly to my destination without needing to switch.”
Nurdeena, student

What are your thoughts about the frequency of the train?

“Considering that the waiting time for trains to come is about 3 minutes, it’s great because I don’t have to wait for a long time to get to my destination.”
Hanan, student
